Gearing up to work on your writing sample? Check out these helpful tips before you get started!
Take 10 to 15 minutes to jot down different responses to the prompt. Your first idea might not be your best, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to think.
Remember, this writing sample is your chance to set yourself apart by showing off your personality — so make sure it shines through!
Make an Outline
Once you know how you want to respond, organize your thoughts into an outline. This can be as simple as making a bulleted list. We recommend structuring a solid beginning, middle, and end.
Write Your First Draft
Follow your outline and write the first draft. It should be quick and easy thanks to all of that planning.
Read through your work and look for misspelled words and grammatical errors. It can be helpful to step away from your writing for an hour or so and then go over it again later with fresh eyes.
Reread The Prompt
Before you submit your writing sample, read through the prompt and directions one last time to make sure that you’ve answered all of the questions. It’s also a good idea to double check requirements such as word count and font size.
We look forward to reading your writing sample, good luck!
